Amnesty International, the non-governmental human rights organization's USA office, published a document on the safety measures to be taken during a protest on their website.
In the pdf document, they provided information on the things you need to do and the things you should avoid doing when planning to go for protest and during the protest.
In the same document, they provided information on the things you can bring along when coming to a protest and the things you can wear and type of clothing, shoes and eye goggles you can wear to the protest that will help ensure your safety.
Also, listed in the document are the things you can avoid doing and what you can do to reduce the risk when exposed to teargas.
Lastly, they let you know the rights you have as a protester.
